MEA Piano Studio - Sonatina Festival

Learning Sonatinas and Sonatas are a great goal for pianists, young and old. And luckily, today there are many accessible pieces as well as programs for students participate in as they learn these wonderful pieces. The events below the main Sonatina events students of MEA Piano Studio participate in each year.

Sonatina Festival I

This is one of the events that MEA Piano Studio participates in during the year. This event is hosted through the Springfield Music Club, a local music organization in Northern Virginia. (Any student whose teacher is a member of the Springfield Music Club may participate in this event.) All levels of piano are welcome and students are divided into three categories based on their levels. Students must memorize one movement from Sonatina or Sonata of their choice. The movement must be at least twenty measures. Students receive a special trophy, based on their years of participation, along with written feedback from the judges.

The Sonatina Festival occurs every year and usually the first Friday and Saturday of May. The festival is normally located at the First Baptist Church of Springfield. The church is located in Springfield, Virginia. The festival event is semi-private, meaning only students and parents of students may attend the many different sessions.

Sonatina Festival II

This is another one of the events that MEA Piano Studio participates in during the year. This event is hosted through the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, a local music organization in Fairfax County. (Any student whose teacher is a member of the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association may participate in this event.) All levels of piano are welcome and students are divided into three categories based on their levels. Students must memorize two contrasting movements from a Sonatina or Sonata of their choice. Students receive a special trophy, based on their years of participation, along with written feedback from the judges.

This Sonatina Festival occurs every year and usually the third weekend of May. The festival is normally located at George Mason University which is located in Fairfax, Virginia. The festival event is semi-private, meaning only students and parents of students may attend the many different sessions.

Sonatina-Sonata Auditions

This is another one of the events that MEA Piano Studio participates in during the year. This event is hosted through the National Guild of Piano Teachers, a national music organization. (Any student whose teacher is a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers may participate in this event and audition at any state center.) All levels of piano are welcome and students are divided into two categories based on their levels. Students must memorize fifteen movements from a Sonatina or Sonata of their choice. Students receive a special plaque for their magnificent effort along with written feedback from the judge.

This Guild Auditions are held every year and usually the second weekend of June. The auditions are normally located at MEA Piano Studio which is located in Alexandria, Virginia. The festival event is private, meaning only the student and judge are allowed in the room.
